While you wait for our plumber to arrive, start wiping up any water, put a bucket to catch drips, and remove important items from the affected area. If the house water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
